Massage Licensing Requirements By State

Each state has it’s own set of requirements to become a licensed massage therapist, below you will find links to every state to verify exactly what you need to become a massage therapist and start your career as soon as possible!

Note, Minnesota and Oklahoma do not have any requirements at this time to become a massage therapist (which is scary for me) but don’t think if you live in those state it won’t change.

In 14 years as a massage therapist I have seen a lot of change in this industry and I hope the states that have no regulations towards massage therapy will hopefully get there acts together and set some guidelines to help the integrity of our industry.

You will also see some states still only require 500 hours of education for there licensing requirements but I believe that will be changing across the board as well. The new standard is 750 hours and I believe many states will be coming around to this standard in the next few years.

I recommend you stay ahead of the curve and be sure to take as many continuing education classes as you can to ensure when your state changes there requirements, you can rest easy knowing you have taken the appropriate steps to stay ahead of the game.
